background

My daughter will soon turn 5 years old and I would like her to attend the public school near our house. We live in zip code 94539 in the Warm Springs neighborhood.

This is my blog on school admissions.

Recently the school scores have been increasing, around 950 and looks like there is a big demand for the school.

On Jan 5, I called up the school "James Leitch" and was informed that admissions will be given on a lottery basis. This sucks. I was hoping that my investment in the house will at least result in my kids going to a decent school. But now this seems to depend on luck.

Forms for the school will be given out on Feb 17.
I pulled up the following statistics from the Fremont school district site.

Students overloaded for James Leitch.
31 for KG, 26 for 1st gr, 3 in 2nd grade

Overloaded
23 in Weibel, 2 in Mission V, 3 in Hirsch, 22 in Grimmer, 10 in Green

  1. We have 6 yr-olds, also live in Warm Springs. We missed Leitch last year, and actually only got the 2nd overflow (Green), so we sent them to private school.

We are going to make another go for it this year (for 1st grade). Based on your data above, things don't look so promising.....do you know if Green is any good?

  2. The API ratings tell the story.

I have heard reports that most teachers in the school district are good. But I think by grade 3 - kids will get more influenced by the company they keep.

  3. Hi, my daughter is on the same boat. How does they decide where the kid goes if there is an overflow?
